Software engineer · AI-assisted automation

Lavan
Thayaparendran

I turn complex systems into dependable, intelligent automation.

Computer engineer working across release engineering, Python automation, cloud infrastructure, and applied AI. Currently focused on agentic workflows and AI-assisted automation frameworks — most recently deploying LiteLLM and Hermes-based agents into real test pipelines at Fortinet.

SELECTED WORK

Breadth, with a bias toward systems that work.

My work spans AI-assisted automation, software delivery, infrastructure, data engineering, and hardware-adjacent research. The thread is consistent: understand the system, automate the repeatable parts, and make reliability visible.

AI-integrated release automation

FORTINET · SENIOR SOFTWARE RELEASE QA SPECIALIST

Own a centralized automation framework for application performance and feature testing across FortiGate, FortiClient, FortiSASE, and FortiStack — Python/Selenium automation, Airflow-orchestrated pipelines, Grafana performance monitoring, and per-build performance testing. Evolved the framework into an AI-integrated platform: deployed and manage LiteLLM for the team, drive testing with the Hermes agent (Qwen 2.5 VL), OpenCode, and Playwright MCP, design orchestrated multi-bot workflows where bots call one another, and generate AI-assisted root-cause analysis reports.

Ocean data, made cloud-ready

MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY · PYTHON DEVELOPER, CO-OP

Developed a Python Flask backend and a containerized data pipeline that transformed Fisheries and Oceans Canada datasets from netCDF to Zarr for scalable visualization — with Terraform-automated cloud infrastructure on OpenStack, Prefect pipelines, and Dask/Xarray for multidimensional data processing.

Indoor robot localization

MSc RESEARCH · MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY

Built an indoor localization solution for mobile robots using HTC VIVE tracking to improve pose-estimation frequency and accuracy — Teensy and Raspberry Pi handled onboard processing, with the control logic developed in C++ and Python.

UAV systems design

BSc ENGINEERING · SLIIT

Designed and built an autonomous quad-copter system for remote monitoring of large agricultural sites — aerial imaging of crop and land conditions with remote access, built around Pixhawk with automation and cloud connectivity.

PORTFOLIO

Selected projects, in depth.

Nine projects across robotics, computer vision, cloud, and data — each with its own case-study page.

EXPERIENCE

From infrastructure to release engineering.

Hands-on experience across the software lifecycle, from building cloud platforms and data services to validating production releases.

Cloud Engineer

Dialog Axiata PLC · Colombo, Sri Lanka

VMware-based cloud solution design, managed-services operations, network architecture, and root-cause analysis for enterprise infrastructure — spanning datacenter operations, cloud planning, and product development.

TOOLKIT

A practical toolkit for varied technical problems.

No arbitrary percentages—just the technologies and disciplines I’ve used to build, automate, test, and investigate real systems.
